Opioid Epidemic Continues Its Staggering Climb
New U.S. government statistics paint an ever more troubling picture of the opioid crisis. The number of Americans who become addicted to these pain killers has sharply risen. The crisis is growing faster.
For example, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality said in June there were 1.27 million opioid-related emergency room visits or inpatient stays nationwide in 2014.
The Centers for Disease Control reports that opioid overdoses killed 33,039 Americans in 2015. That’s close to the 33,636 deaths due to “injury by firearms” reported by the CDC!
With a problem this big, medical and dental professionals are impacted. That’s why the American Dental Association informs dentists on how to reduce the chance of harm or risk.
