A $295 million settlement has been reached on behalf of a nationwide class of Stericycle customers, following a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of automatically inflating customer bills up to 18% every six months. This class includes more than 246,000 dentists, veterinarians and other small business owners across the country. (Here’s the ADANews article.)
Last year, ADANews posted a detailed report that showed dentists nationwide reporting escalating fees that were not explicitly stated in their Stericycle contracts. These contracts were automatically renewing with increased prices and a small window to cancel before it re-ups for several more years.
Under the new settlement agreement, Stericycle will discontinue the pricing practices that affected the customer base that Stericycle identified as their “small quantity” customers. According to the suit, these accounts made up 97 percent of Stericycle’s customers worldwide.
