When dental patients or staff have accidents or get cuts and scrapes, they expect a fully stocked first aid kit to be readily accessible. OSHA regulations require workplaces including dental offices to have first aid kits that meet the latest ANSI standards (updated in 2015). Does your office have a ANSI 2015-compliant first aid kit?
What ANSI Means For Dental Offices
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which oversees workplace safety and health, relies on the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for first aid requirements in workplaces. Standards were most recently updated in 2015 (ANSI / ISEA Z308.1-2015). Compliance date was June 17, 2016. Practices with first aid kits that do not meet the 2015 ANSI standards should upgrade to be OSHA compliant. (Click on the PDF below to learn more about the ANSI 2015 standards.)
